HUD Announces Nearly $90 Million to Make Low-income Families’ Homes Safer and Healthier

Date Published:
May 6th, 2024

HUD is making available nearly $90 million in health and safety funds aimed at reducing health hazards in public housing units. The Housing-related Hazards Capital Fund (HRHCF) and Lead Based Paint Capital Fund Program (LBPCF) NOFO will provide grants upwards of $15,000 per unit to address health hazards (i.e. mold, asbestos, etc.) in public housing. These grants aim to address hazards that Capital Fund Formula grants are ill-suited to address.

Public Housing Authorities and Indian Housing Authorities must apply for these HRHCF and LBPCF funds by July 1, 2024.
