Next week, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) will re-introduce the Affordable Housing for Educational Achievement Demonstration Act of 2019 (the AHEAD Act).
You may remember from our previous work on this important legislation that the AHEAD Act would provide funding to incentivize partnerships between the education and housing sectors in order to improve educational outcomes for low-income students. Under the re-introduced bill, school districts would apply in partnership with local housing authorities and other community-based organizations for a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to implement innovative projects to:
- Address and prevent child and family homelessness
- Promote educational stability and academic achievement
- Improve outcomes for children and youth from low-income families
The full text of the legislation, a one-page summary and a link to indicate your organization’s support of the legislation may be found here. Please join CLPHA and Housing Is in endorsing the AHEAD Act.
The deadline for being listed as an endorsing organization prior to the bill’s introduction is 12pm on Tuesday, December 10. However, endorsements are very welcome after introduction, as well!
