A public housing complex in Downtown Jersey City is up for a high-rise makeover, reports 6sqft.

The Jersey City Housing Authority recently voted to select WinnDevelopment to lead the redevelopment of the Holland Gardens complex, which spans 3.3 acres at 15th Street and Jersey Avenue. Plans call for razing all five existing structures on the property, clearing the way for a $500-million development which will include senior housing, for-sale homes, public housing, market-rate rental units, and other uses.

PS&S Architects is designing the redevelopment, which will preserve all 192 existing public housing units on the property, while also adding 74 senior affordable units and 56 two-bedroom condominiums. Half of those for-sale units would be reserved for purchase by families earning between 60  and 120 percent of area median income. Additionally, plans call for 309 market-rate rentals, which would be co-located with the replacement public housing.
